Psyllium is a source of soluble dietary fiber. They are used to relieve constipation, irritable bowel syndrome and diarrhea. They are also used as regular dietary supplements to improve and maintain regular gastrointestinal transit.

 

Regardless of other aspects of the diet or any disease condition of the intestinal tract, the inert components of the shell help provide a constant volume of solid matter. Some recent studies have also shown that they are promising in reducing cholesterol and controlling diabetes.
